Sr. Sarah Jordan – first FMDM Sister to reach 100
It is with great joy when Sister Sarah the first member of the FMDM worldwide is 100! FMDM Sisters in Ireland and 50 family members from Australia, Seattle and other parts of the world arrived in Ballinasloe Ireland to join in this special centenary celebration. What an amazing milestone!
Sarah Jordan was born in Belfast in 1914. She joined the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood (FMDM) in 1945 and did her religious formation in Ballinasloe County Galway.
Today at 100, Sarah is amazingly very much alive and alert. She takes great interest in the happenings of the world. Many sisters who have lived with her in Zambia described Sarah as a ‘great missionary’ and reminisced fond memories of her. Sarah is a gracious and kind person with a wonderful sense of humour.
Sarah’s first mission assignment was Zambia in 1950 which was then Northern Rhodesia. In the year 2000, she returned home first to our Motherhouse in England after spending four decades of her life in Zambia. Shortly after, Sarah returned to Ballinasloe, to the place where she first began her religious formation journey.
In a note of thanks to all who came for the celebration, Sarah said: ” I am grateful to everyone who throughout the years have encouraged and supported me in so many ways; those who have held me in prayer along the way, especially my family and FMDM Sisters.
Congratulations Sarah! We too thank you for the wonderful person you have been to all of us. May God bless you with His great love and peace.
