Sr. Marie Coyle FMDM: A Life Remembered (1939 – 2016)

FMDM worldwide mourned the loss of Sr. Marie Coyle who died peacefully in Ireland on 16 February 2016.  She was born in Plymouth, Devon, U.K., and at the age of 21, felt the call to be a religious as a Franciscan Missionary of the Divine Motherhood, already a trained Radiographer.

Marie loved nature and enjoyed long walks. She was always full of life, had a great passion for Franciscan studies and this led her to be very involved with the  Secular Franciscan Order (SFO) at local and national level. Her last mission assignment was in Drogheda, Ireland and she loved it so much that when she was taken quite ill and needed recuperation, she requested to return to her community there. And she got her wish!

Marie loved history and fitted naturally in her role as Archivist for the Irish Region.  She was missioned to Zimbabwe (Northern Rhodesia then), England, Jordan and her last three decades in Ireland. Whilst we mourn for Marie, we also want to celebrate her life, lived to the fullest. As a tribute to Marie, we would like to share with you her story and photos which will give you a glimpse of her life. Sr. Marie Coyle: A Life Remembered (1939 – 2016). To read click here
