The Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood (FMDM) are fully committed to the protection and safeguarding of all children.

In Ireland we no longer work directly with children as part of our congregational ministry, however we are working closely with the ‘National Board for Safeguarding Children in Ireland’ to be fully compliant with ‘best practice’. In line with this we developed an ‘FMDM Policy and Procedures on Child Safeguarding Practice’ that all Sisters are committed to implementing, when children visit any of our communities or if in the course of their various pastoral ministries they have contact with children .

In March we requested a review of FMDM Child Protection Practices in Ireland. The Report of this ‘Review’ by the National Board for Safeguarding Children stated that:

“FMDM policy is more than adequate for the ministry of the congregation and they should be commended on the commitment and work invested in this document.”

We received no recommendations from the review.

As a Congregation we acknowledge the deep hurt and pain that many of our brothers and sisters continue to carry as a result of abuse of any form. We re-affirm our commitment to playing our part in making our Church a safe place for all people.
