Group photo 2018On 29th November 2018, Sr Bridget Tighe was accompanied by members of her family and Sr Kathleen (Murphy) to receive the award from President Michael D Higgins at a ceremony held at Áras an Uachtaráin (English: Residence of the President) in Dublin. Sr Bridget (from County Sligo) was one of ten honoured at the Presidential Distinguished Service Awards for the Irish Abroad today.  The 10 winners, chosen from 148 nominations, have made significant contributions in charitable work, the arts, science, sport and business. President Michael D. Higgins presented the 2018 Presidential Distinguished Service Awards every year, in recognition of the service given to Ireland, or to Irish communities abroad, by those who live outside Ireland. Present at the ceremony were The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr Simon Coveney and the Minister of State for the Diaspora and International Development, Ciarán Cannon.

Sr Bridget received her award for her total of almost 25 years of ministry in the Middle East in recognition of her  “support for the Palestinian people, providing care to the most marginalised, often in extremely difficult conditions.” Congratulations Bridget and thank you for the generous selfless living of our FMDM Missionary charism.
