Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year) is a special and joyous time when families will make an effort to ‘come home’ for the family reunion dinner.

Being an international congregation the sisters in the Motherhouse celebrate Chinese New Year in a big way! The chapel, front hall, dining room were beautifully decorated. Probably more beautiful than Chinatown! Chinese New Year celebration lasts for 15 days (28 January to 11 February 2017)

The dining room was beautifully decorated and the Chinese dinner was sumptuous. Traditionally, angpows (red packet) and oranges are given when visiting families. In Ladywell, the sisters and staff received angpows on New Year’s day. Our Asian sisters wore their traditional costume and during the Eucharistic celebration, we sang ‘Lord of the Year we give you thanks…..’

According to the Chinese zodiac the Rooster symbolizes honesty, fortitude and fidelity. May this Year of the Rooster be a year of blessings as we approach the year with vigour and hope!
