A very special meeting with Pope Francis

Pope Francis said to Sr. Denise Boyle FMDM: “We must pray and work together and then with a big smile repeated ‘together’.”
Wednesdays are usually reserved for the General Audience with the Pope. This particular Wednesday on 9 September 2015 was special when Sr. Denise Boyle FMDM and Rachel Moran had the privilege to meet the Pope personally amongst the thousands gathered at St. Peter’s Square in Rome.
The Nuncio from Ireland had arranged for Sr. Denise Boyle and Rachel Moran to sit in the front row as this ensured the opportunity to greet the Pope and to speak with him. Rachel gave him a copy of her book ‘Paid For – My Journey Through Prostitution’. He and Rachel then spoke about the global movement to prevent the exploitation of women. Sr. Denise shared that her meeting with the Pope was extra-ordinary. She said that: “when I mentioned AI he clasped my lower arm tightly, and my right hand even tighter, whilst he shook his head from side to side with an anguished look of pain. It was a visceral response, then he said this is ‘a global problem and causes so much suffering’. We spoke more and the Pope finished by saying ‘we must pray and work together and then with a big smile repeated ‘together’.”
